The new Garda to Sergeant Promotion Process

Psychometric tests will be used as part of the selection process for the upcoming 2021 Garda to Sergeant Promotion Competition. The Public Appointments Service is to take over the promotions process within the Garda, paving the way for the promotions of hundreds of members within the force. Promotions to the ranks of sergeant and inspector had been managed internally before now. There are presently 266 vacancies at the rank of sergeant, and the new regulations will allow these new promotions to begin in the coming weeks (late Aug /September 2021).

Preparation for Garda to Sergeant Psychometric Tests

Career Services are offering a Garda Sergeant Psychometric Test preparation course which has everything you need to succeed. They have been providing preparation courses for Garda entrance exams since the introduction of aptitude tests in 1987 and are Ireland’s leading preparation course provider for Garda entrance tests.

It is estimated that over 3,000 members of An Garda Síochána are eligible to apply for the 2021 Garda sergeant competition. Our understanding is that applicants must have passed their Garda promotion exams within the last 5 years in order to be eligible to apply to the competition. There are only 266 vacancies. The vast majority of candidates will not be successful in the competition because they will not get a good enough score in the psychometric tests. If you are a serious candidate you will want to give yourself an edge by doing the best preparation course available.
